"Dial-Around Or Around Dialing Is A Service Which Allows You To Save Money On Your Phone Bills By Dialing Around Your Regular Long Distance Carrier"

Dial-Around, or Around Dialing as it is sometimes called, is a type of long distance service that allows you to "dial around" your regular long distance carrier to save you money on your long distance bill.

By dialing  a special number that is assigned to you, you can bypass or dial-around your long distance carrier and use another long distance carrier that offers cheaper rates than your regular plan (isn't that clever?).

If you live in the US then you  probably are familiar with Dial Around services, only you many not be familiar with the term.

However, if you watch television then I'm sure you've probably seen commercials for these services.They are the ones that advertise sometimes ridiculously cheap phone rates by dialing a number like 10-10 followed by an access code.

Is this a scam?

No it isn't. Around Dialing Services are legitimate businesses that are in the business to offer cheap long distance and international calling rates to people like me and you.

"How Does Around Dialing Work?"

How dial-around works is that you sign-up with a company which has a unique access number which you dial. 

By dialing  this number it allows you to bypass or "dial-around" your long distance carrier and use another long distance carrier that offers cheaper rates than your regular plan. 

Most dial-arounds in in the US begin with the numbers 10-10 followed by a three-digit access code (10-10-XXX). 

Some use other combinations such as 10-15 or 10-16 followed by a three-digit access code. Dial-arounds or around dialing require the use of these access codes along with the rest of the number you are dialing. For example:

10-10-XXX + 011 + country code + city code + phone number

Many dial-around offer really excellent calling rates. Often, their rates are even better than calling plan rates and have no monthly fees. Charges from using dial-arounds will appear on your monthly phone bill.

Before using a dial-around company, you should consider asking the following questions:

Do any flat fees or monthly charges apply?

What are the per-minute rates?
