As you've probably learned from your
friends and family or even from your own experience, Internet
calling may provide people like you and me with a cheaper long distance service alternative to calls billed to
you through the local telephone company by traditional long distance service companies.
If you're not so familiar with
Internet Calling, the following are a series of frequently asked questions
that will shed some light on the matter for you.
If you are already familiar with
Internet Calling, then by all means please continue your visit and
feel free to learn more by clicking on the available links for
companies offering these services.
What is "Internet calling?"
"Internet calling" allows people to place calls between personal computers
(PC) or between a PC and a regular telephone. The calls are sent over
the computer rather than the traditional way. The computer user(s) can speak and listen through the use of speakers or headsets plugged into the computer.
Who can place an Internet call?
Anyone can place an Internet call through an Internet calling company so long as at least one computer is involved.
Is the quality of an Internet call different?
The sound quality of each call varies from company to company. Calls placed over the Internet
sometimes experience lower sound quality.
Some Internet calls may experience echos, crackling, background noise (if a headset isn't used), and brief lapses in the conversation flow.
However, a lot depends on the company that offer the service and
their technology. The companies that I have personally recommended
through-out this site are ones that I've researched and know to
offer the best quality service.
Are there any benefits to placing Internet calls?
Yes, it's cheap! If you have a computer, placing calls to another computer is free through most, if not all,
Internet calling companies. If you use your computer to call a telephone, then several Internet calling companies will place the calls for free or for a low per minute rate.
