How I’m Finding Inexpensive Ways To Use The Internet To Talk On The Phone
Over the last several years, technology is changing the way we communicate. For example, voip, which stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol has enhanced the way people make phone calls and communicate with each other.
Put simply, Voip is a technology which allows people to make phone calls using a broadband connection on the Internet. Traditional phone companies use an expensive telephone network. While voip on the other hand, uses special adapters which convert your voice to data and transfers it over the internet until it is converted to audio on the receiving end. Essentially, what you’re doing when you use voip is you are routing your calls through a network that uses fewer resources and is a whole lot cheaper. Yippee!
To take advantage of voip, you will need a good broadband internet service, otherwise, you may end up having your phone call interrupted.
Skype is one of these technologies and is a totally free service. However, for just a tiny fee you can have unlimited calling anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. However, computer to computer calls world wide are free. Nice isn’t it? A headset with a microphone setup is needed to talk and hear. After downloading the software configuration and sign up is pretty simple. You can start making calls immediately after that. Skype is one of my preferred ways to make cheap international phone calls.
Skype is not the only provider of this service, however, in fact, there are plenty of providers on the market. Some service providers allow you to use an online id to make calls, whereas others require a phone number including area code. LNP (Local Number Portability) is also available in case you want to keep your existing phone number and move it to your new service. This helps to keep your contact information portable as you try various service before finding the one you want to keep.
You may want to shop around and compare services. Additionally, you’ll want to check out the software specific to each service. Some providers allow you to use a traditional phone and others offer phone adapters for their service. Some of the top providers are Vonage, ViaTalk, and Skype.
The full impact of voip is yet to be seen, but right now millions are using these services. Making phone calls over the internet is not only efficient, it’s down right cheap!
