Introduction To The iPhone
The new Apple iPhone is a great invention that is bringing together the world of mp3s and cellular phones, like no other company has yet been able to do. Many phones now allow you to browse the Internet, check e-mail, use your phone and listen to music, but none have quite the memory or ease of use as the iPhone. That being said there are some aspects of the iPhone that might turn potential users off to purchasing it.
To cover a few of these restrictions, let’s start with what the phone cannot do. First of all, you have to have a full 2 year data and voice contract with AT&T to even activate your iPhone, otherwise you can only use it as a music player. This alone could cost you around $1000 a year. You will also have to consider if you already have a contract with another company, and whether there is reliable AT&T service in your area. Next you will not experience the best call quality as you would with other companies who have had years to perfect their cellular reception. Another restriction is that the SIM card that you get can only be used between iPhones and if your battery runs dead, expected to be about 3 years, you have to send the phone in to get a new battery (as there are not replacement batteries available). Between the battery and shipping you are looking at close to $90.
For those who really like to personalize their electronics, you might be surprised that you are not able to use mp3s as ringtones. This could turn off a large portion of buyers, especially teens who like to change their ringtones often. Those purchasing for ease of use of browsing might find that the Internet is a bit slow on the AT&T network. But there is more to see with this phone’s browser than most others available at the moment, as it has a 3.5 inch window and the display has more pixels than any other music player Apple offers. When it comes to pictures from the iPhone they do have a 2 megapixel camera to use, however at this point you can not send pictures from your iPhone to another phone, except through e-mail. The iPhones are also not compatible with the Windows Active Sync function, which means more software for your computer. That all being said the iPhone does deliver on a lot of its promises.
The camera offers beautiful pictures, with great color, and the menu for the camera is very easy to use. Also with the iPhone you do not need a stylus, which can often be difficult to use effectively for people with big hands, arthritis or shaky hands. The touchscreen lets you easily choose what you need to do. There is a virtual QWERTY keyboard on the iPhone as well, that makes it possible to send text messages and type in the name to websites, it is a bit difficult to use with both hands, so you might find yourself slowing down to type a message.
The wireless Internet that is included with the iPhone works very well with a home or hotspot network, it is just the EDGE network that could use a little more speed, but this is mostly for just being out and about where there is not already a network. All in all, the iPhone does a pretty good job as a phone, and holds the spotlight for the best iod so far with great audio, and usability. The iPhone is no doubt the new must have electronic this year, and is sure to be a hit for this coming holiday season. It is just up to you to decide if it is worth the money to invest into one, and make sure it does what you need before purchase.
