If you have an ear open to new computer
technologies, then I’m sure you have already heard all the recent
buzz about VoIP.
Maybe you’ve heard about it but you’re not really sure what it
is. If this is the case then you’ve come to the right place.
My suggestion to you is that you
sit back and relax, maybe even get a cup of coffee and continue reading my VoIP review page so you can familiarize yourself
with exactly what VoIP is.
If you are more advanced and came here
to find VoIP service providers or other information, then feel free

"VoIP
Allows You To Make Calls Over The Internet - Saving You A Lot Of
Money"
I first became familiar with
VoIP on an extended trip to Asia when
I
needed a cheap way to keep in touch with friends and family in the
States. And since necessity is the mother of invention, that’s when
I discovered VoIP.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a new type of technology
which allows you to make telephone calls over the Internet.
It is already starting to replace existing telephone networks, with
some people and businesses opting to cancel their traditional phone
lines and use VoIP instead. One of the main reasons for this is because it’s cheap. VoIP
technology allows you to make cheap phone calls to anywhere in
the world.
VoIP is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls
using a
broadband Internet/DSL connection instead of a regular phone line.
In order for voice data to be transmitted over the Internet without
noticeable delays, both parties need a broadband Internet connection.
Broadband is a high-speed Internet
connection usually provided by a cable or DSL modem. Broadband
modems are usually used to connect computers to the Internet. Trust
me, I've tried using VoIP without
broadband, and it just doesn't work well. If
you don’t have broadband service already, then you will want to
start by getting yourself a broadband connection first.
VoIP was originally developed to provide voice communication between
computer users in different locations. Although it still has this
application, it has been further developed into a telephone network
in its own right.
"Make
Free Calls Over The Internet With VoIP!"
The simplest form of VoIP is a computer-to-computer voice
connection. All that is required for this type of connection is a
computer, a headset consisting of earphones and microphone, and VoIP
software which you can download from the VoIP's service
provider's website. Most software packages are free and allow you to
connect to any computer running the same software. There is no
charge for this type of connection and calls can be made to
any country in the world. One most well-known providers for this
kind of service is Skype. With Skype you can make free calls over the Internet. Skype –
the whole world can talk for free!
"You
Can Use VoIP To Call Any Telephone In The World"
VoIP software can also be used to call land-line phones --
that is, phones which are not connected directly to the Internet.
This type of call is usually not free but the cost is still quite cheap.
Some VoIP services also allow you to make calls to cellular phones.
The only time that BOTH parties need a particular VoIP software
package is when they are making computer-to-computer calls. However,
the person receiving a land-line or cellular calls does not need any extra
equipment or software.
"Make
Cheap Phone Calls Using Your Traditional Phone With VoIP"
Additionally, while some services only work over your computer or a special VoIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone
through an adaptor.
When
placing a VoIP call using a phone with an adapter, you'll hear
a dial tone and dial just as you always have.
"An
Internet Phone Is Small and And Light Enough To Take With You Anywhere"
There is also another kind of VoIP product called an Internet Phone
which is a VoIP product that you simply plug it into a broadband connection anywhere in the world and
you can make and receive calls just as though you were in your own
home or office.
You can make and receive phone calls wherever there is a broadband
connection simply by signing in to your VoIP account. This makes
VoIP as convenient as e-mail – if you are traveling, simply pack a
headset or Internet phone and you can talk to your family or
business associates for almost nothing.
Of course one to the biggest advantages that VoIP product offers –
as you’ve heard me say over and over again is that it’s extremely
cheap. And this is a perfect way for you to save money on your long
distance calls when you travel.
Alrighty then, this concludes my brief overview of what VoIP is.
But wait!
I know I threw around a lot of terms
that, if you are a newbie, may seem a bit confusing. If this is the
case, I want you to continue reading because this page of my VoiP
Review is just to you give a basic overview of what VoIP is and how it
works. If you are new to this, then keep reading!
So now, on with the show.
